Fall/Winter Swim Team
Thank you for bearing with us during our transition to a new coach. We are very excited to have Julia Lamb join the EdgarMay and guide our competitive youth swim team. You can read more about Julia, here Our Staff — Edgar May Health and Recreation Center. Below is an overview of what our youth swim team will look like this fall. We will also be offering a winter session that will run from January-March, we just need to finalize a few dates for that session.
Julia will also be scheduling some times for kids to come in and work with her to asses their swimming and help with team placement or areas for improvement. Swim Team Information:
Introduction To Swim Team: Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5pm (October 2-October 18); Cost: $45 member; $60 for community member
Intro to Swim Team is open to new swimmers that may be interested in joining our competitive swim team and returning Developmental level swimmers from last season. This three-week program will improve a swimmers technique as well as increase stamina in new swimmers. Register early as space is limited.
Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle with an understanding of side breathing
Fall/Winter Swim Season: November 1st-December 22nd
Beginning swimmers or those that can complete 1 lap of backstroke and freestyle. These swimmers are generally 10 and under. Coaches will work in and out of the water to teach each swimmer proper swimming skills, with a focus on strokes. The swimmers will also progress to longer lengths of swimming in order to give them the endurance they need for shorter races. Coaches will work in and out of the water.
Practices are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5:00pm; Cost: $135
Each swimmer must be 8 years old, be able to swim 50 yards of each stroke and a 100 IM with minimal corrections. They will work primarily on improving proper swimming technique. These swimmers will swim longer yards and multiple sets, to increase their endurance while maintaining correct form. Coaches will work in and out of the water.
Practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 5:00-6:00pm; A printed workout will be provided each week for an optional additional workout for swimmers. Cost: $215
Each swimmer must be 12 years old and/or have coach’s approval. Must be able to swim 100 yards of each stroke, as well as a 200 IM and know all of the correct turns and starts. Technique remains a priority with an increase in aerobic capacity training. Practices will consist of higher yardage, training a variety of systems and strokes. The goal of swimmers in this group is to be well-rounded, capable of swimming a 200 free & 200 IM competitively.
Practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 5:00-6:30pm; A printed workout will be provided each week for an optional additional workout for swimmers. Cost: $300
